In my last article, Your Energetic Body, we talked about the energy flowing through your body and I mentioned your chakras. Today, I'm going to go more in depth on the seven main chakras. I will go over each chakra individually to tell you what each chakra is about and what colors, behaviors, and crystals are associated with it. I know your time is limited and I don't want to waste it, so let's jump right in.
The Root Chakra
The Root Chakra is also known as Muladhara which, according to Wikipedia, is Sanskrit for root of existence. It lies at the base of your spine and draws energy from the earth. It is associated with the lower regions of the body like the feet, legs, tail bone, spine, and adrenals. This chakra is all about survival, basic needs, connection with earth, grounding, security, and safety. It is represented by the color red. Some crystals that can be used with this chakra are red jasper, garnet, black tourmaline, and hematite. Some symptoms of this chakra being out of balance can be poor circulation, lower back pain, anxiety/fear, lack of stamina, over or undereating, and hoarding.
The Sacral Chakra
The Sacral Chakra is also known as Svadhithana, which means where your being is established. It rests in the pelvis and is associated with our sexual organs, prostate, kidneys, and bladder. This chakra is about our connection to other people, emotions, creativity, sexuality, energy, and confidence. It is represented by the color orange. Some crystals that can be used with this chakra are carnelian, amber, orange calcite, and sunstone. This chakra being out of balance can cause poor social skills, lack of passion, denial of pleasure or addiction to pleasure, emotional sensitivity, obsessive attachment, menstrual difficulties, mood swings, lower back pain, and depression.
The Solar Plexus Chakra
The Solar Plexus Chakra is also called Manipura, which means city of jewels. It is located over the stomach and is associated with our digestive system, liver, gall bladder, spleen, and pancreas. This chakra is about our personal power, self-esteem, self value, and prosperity. It is represented by the color yellow. Some crystals that can be used to help this chakra are citrine, amber, topaz, pyrite, and yellow tigers eye. If this chakra is out of balance there may be low self-esteem, victim mentality, unreliability, stubbornness, arrogance, overly aggressive behavior or competitiveness, middle back pain, excessive thirst, and digestive issues.
The Heart Chakra
The Heart Chakra can also be called Anahata, which means unstruck or unhurt. It lies in the center of our energy system, over our heart, and is associated with the heart, lungs, thymus, chest, shoulders, arms, and hands. This chakra is about balance, love, compassion, forgiveness, trust, and relationships. It is represented by the color green most of the time, but sometimes pink as well. Some crystals that can be used are rose quartz, peridot, malachite, emerald, and green aventurine. When this chakra isn't balanced there can be lung congestion, upper back tension, blood pressure imbalance, and immune deficiency. It can also cause one to be withdrawn, judgmental, co-dependent, demanding, jealous, have poor boundaries, or be overly sacrificing.
The Throat Chakra
The Throat Chakra is also known as Vishudha, which means purification. It rests at the base of our throat and is associated with the thyroid, throat, ears, jaw, neck, and voice. This chakra is about communication, expression, and integrity. It is represented by the color blue. Some crystals that can be used are blue lace agate, celestite, sodalite, and iolite. When this chakra isn't balanced there can be coughing, tickle or phlegm in the throat, ear problems, allergies, and a stuffy/runny nose. It can cause one to suppress feelings, have a fear of expression or offending others, stuttering, inability to listen, gossiping, excessive talking, and a tendency to interrupt.
The Third Eye Chakra
The Third Eye Chakra is also called Ajna, which means to perceive or beyond wisdom. It lies on our forehead between the brows and is associated with our pituitary gland, pineal gland, eyes, and temples. This chakra is about intuition, psychic abilities, imagination, and mental clarity. It is represented by the color Violet/Indigo. Some crystals that can be used are lapis lazuli, amethyst, lepidolite, fluorite, and sugilite. When this chakra isn't balanced, it can lead to sleeping disturbances, difficulty concentrating, pain in the eyes or headaches, depression, and hormonal difficulties. A person could be easily stressed, have poor vision, poor memory, a lack of imagination, narrow mindedness, hallucinations, and nightmares.
The Crown Chakra
The Crown Chakra is also known as Sahasrara, which means "thousand petalled or thousand fold". It rests at the top of your head and is associated with your pineal gland, pituitary gland, hypothalamus, brain, and head. This chakra is about divine connection, spirituality, consciousness, and universal connection. It can be represented by the colors white, pink, and/or violet. Some crystals that can be used are amethyst, clear quartz, Herkimer diamond, moonstone, and apophyllite. An out of balance crown chakra could cause nervous system imbalances, poor coordination, hallucinations, and short term memory issues. Someone could have spiritual cynicism, feel separated from abundance and wholeness, have learning difficulties, uncertainty, lack of purpose, be overly intellectual, have a spiritual addiction, or a disassociation from their body.
Conclusion
I hope this helps you to understand your chakras a little better now. They are very important to your overall health physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually and that is why it is so easy for imbalances to affect you. I know some of the possible outcomes of an imbalanced chakra contradict each other, but that is because your chakra can be underactive or overactive and that can cause opposing results such as talking too much or a fear of talking.
